Manager, Automation

Kansas City, Missouri Development Operations - Automation Full Time

The Manager of Automation will report to the Director of Development Operations, and will lead, mentor, and grow a team of automation engineers who focus on the automation side of DevOps, including but not limited to Infrastructure as Code, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery and other various aspects of the release lifecycle.  This role will focus both on internal processes as well as helping drive external engagements and pre-sales.   

General Description & Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentoring a team of individuals 
  • Manage the day to day execution of the tactical directions as set forth by department leadership 
  • Review task assignments and work outputs 
  • Roll out training guidelines and plans for the team 
  • Provide process improvement recommendations based on best practices and industry standards. 
  • Develop standards and processes for operations that proactively prevent problems from occurring 
  • Produce and enforce delivery excellence standards within the department 
  • Act as “Client Partner” on projects to provide oversight on behalf of Valorem and the Customer to ensure project success 
  • Define processes for automation using CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code patterns and tools 
  • Work with members of the Cloud Platforms team(s) to bring appropriate knowledge and skills to bear on projects 
  • Provide hands-on expertise where needed 
  • Assist in pre-sales efforts where required 
  • Placement Criteria & Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience. 
  • BS in Engineering field or equivalent experience. 
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines is a must 
  • Background in Automation tools such as Chef, Puppet or Ansible a must 
  • Background in Release Management tools such as Octopus or Microsoft Release Manager is a must 
  • Experience working in a Cloud/IaaS environment such as AWS or Azure is a must 
  • Experience and knowledge of software development, deployment and testing methodologies strongly desired 
  • Extensive background in developing and operating large-scale cloud-based distributed applications desired 
  • Background in application development (as a programmer) preferred 
  • Prior experience working in a consulting organization preferred  
  • Background in managing App Dev support organizations a plus
