NICKELODEON - WINDOWS 8
Nickelodeon, a trademark of Viacom International often referred to as nick, is a children’s entertainment staple with globally recognized characters such as Sam and Cat, SpongeBob Squarepants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The network is primarily aimed at preschoolers, children in grade school and teens. Nickelodeon’s goal was to extend their brand to the Windows 8 platform to drive loyalty, increase viewership and provide a unique entertainment resource. We partnered with Nickelodeon to implement their vision and develop an interactive and engaging Windows 8 application.
CHALLENGE
Nickelodeon required a high performance Windows 8 experience that leveraged several dynamic assets, an extensive media list and web based games. The targeted low-end device was ARM based, therefore requiring a development approach with an efficient method of caching and processing data.
SOLUTION
To meet performance requirements, we developed the Nickelodeon Windows 8 application by optimizing the process of downloading data incrementally, leveraging virtualized lists and factoring for low-powered devices.
RESULT
A responsive, high performance application with now millions of happy nick fans exploring character pages, character-related gaming content and entertainment on desktops, laptops and tablet devices. The application includes streaming videos, web-based games and images of several Nickelodeon characters. Snap view, portrait mode and a live secondary tile were also implemented.
